May 19 - May 22 (9:00 - 4:00) Introduction to Navajo Rug Weaving with a Navajo master instructor and weaver, Isabel Deschinny. We'll have four days of instruction and practice in this ancient and beautiful art. Learn about the significance of Navajo weaving, learn to card, spin and process wool using traditional Navajo techniques, learn to warp, learn basic rug designs as blocks, borders and diagonals. Apply the techniques. Small looms will be available for purchase from a Navajo loom builder. All other equipment is available and looms will be available for a small rental fee as well.
Instructor: Isabel Deschinny. Isabel teaches at the University of New Mexico and throughout the Southwest.
